Letter from the Camp Director

Scouts and Scouters:

Thank you for taking a few minutes to review this guide and learn a little more about the amazing summer program at Rainbow Scout Reservation!

As I enter my 7th year as the Camp Director at Rainbow Scout Reservation, I am still reminded each day how powerful an impact the scouting program has on young people. Summer camp is an ideal time to help deliver the promise of scouting to our campers and this is a responsibility RSR does not take lightly. A little bit about myself: Away from camp, I work as a high school social studies teacher at Hinsdale South High School in Darien, Illinois. I am an Eagle Scout with Troop 65 in Lockport and still live in Homer Glen today. Scouting had a tremendous impact on me as a youth and I hope to ensure that positive experience is delivered to scouts at RSR each summer.

Joining me in the effort to deliver scouting is our outstanding summer camp staff and all those associated with Rainbow Council. They are ready to provide you with a tremendous summer camp experience.  We are committed to providing every camper at RSR a safe, quality, and fun-filled program that they will remember forever.

Every camp has lakes, merit badges, and flag ceremonies. What makes a camp stand out is the people. The Camp Staff at RSR is without question, our most defining quality. We have recruited and trained the most professional and energetic staff of any summer camp. This group is committed to providing you and your Scouts with the experience of a lifetime. Our staff goes through an extensive training and preparation process, and I am confident that our staff’s energy and ability is unmatched! I challenge you to find a more professional, eager, and quality staff at any camp.

This summer is special for another reason; the addition of the BSA’s National Youth Leadership Training program to our summer camp offering. During session 4 of Boy Scout Camp, RSR will offer scouts the opportunity to take

In addition to this guide, the 2016 Program Guide will be released in January and will detail our program offerings, merit badge schedule, prerequisites and much more. This will be available for download from our website and Facebook pages.

We are committed to providing your unit with a safe and memorable experience at RSR. In an effort to maintain the safest camp, all policies and procedures comply with the BSA’s Guide to Safe Scouting. As you prepare your troop for camp, please check our website throughout the year for the latest news.  Again, please know that I am committed to ensuring you and your Scouts will have an unforgettable experience at RSR.

Welcome to camp!

Yours In Scouting,

Nick Chavarria | Camp Director
